Kate Hurlbut

Healthcare Professional Loss Support Group Leader

Kate Hurlbut is a longtime supporter of families experiencing pregnancy, infant and child loss.  She is a mom to three children, two who she has the honor to hold in her arms and one who she will forever hold in her heart.  She was led to help bereaved families after experiencing the loss of one of her twin girls at 7 weeks old in 2015.  In those early days of grief, she longed for the support of another mom who had also experienced infant loss.

Since that time, Kate has been actively involved in improving bereavement services at Texas Children’s Hospital.  Her family opened the Butterfly Bereavement Room at the Texas Children’s Pavilion for Women NICU in 2017 in loving memory of her daughter, Ella Grace.  She also founded the Grief Mentor Program and has facilitated numerous virtual grief support groups as well as educational opportunities through TCH.

Kate has been a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner for Texas Children’s Pediatrics for almost 20 years.  Prior to that, she served as a staff nurse at Texas Children’s Hospital in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and the Pulmonary/Adolescent Unit.

Connection to the Mission:

Kate felt led to volunteer with Missing Pieces Support Group because she feels no one should ever have to walk through grief alone.
