LaToya Shields is a dedicated public health and emergency management professional, educator, and advocate with a deep commitment to supporting families and strengthening communities. Her passion for serving others is rooted not only in her professional experience, but also in her personal journey. Having experienced miscarriage and the challenges associated with pregnancy loss, as well as navigating the emotional complexities of having a child in the NICU, LaToya understands firsthand the profound impact that loss, uncertainty, and trauma can have on individuals and families. These experiences have shaped her compassion, resilience, and unwavering commitment to ensuring that no family feels alone during difficult seasons.
Professionally, LaToya brings extensive experience in public health, emergency management, community engagement, and health equity. She has dedicated her career to addressing the social and structural factors that influence health outcomes, particularly among vulnerable populations. Her expertise includes program development, strategic planning, coalition building, and community-based advocacy. As an educator and leader, she is passionate about advancing systems that are responsive, equitable, and centered on the needs of those they serve. She recognizes the importance of holistic support, especially during times of crisis, grief, and transition.
Outside of her professional and advocacy work, LaToya is a devoted mother of two sons, ages 22 and 19, and treasures the time she spends with her family. She strives to live a life rooted in grace, compassion, and purpose. Her faith is central to who she is and serves as the foundation that grounds, guides, and strengthens her in both her personal and professional life. It is through her faith that she finds wisdom, resilience, and calling to serve others with empathy and excellence. She enjoys mentoring emerging leaders, engaging in community service, traveling, reading, and creating meaningful spaces for connection and empowerment. Whether through her work, volunteer service, or personal relationships, LaToya is committed to uplifting others, fostering resilience, and helping individuals and families find hope, healing, and strength.
